Legislating A Man's Heart:

African American Athlete's Impact on the Civil Rights Movement

African-American athletes impacted the Civil Rights Movement by using their national spotlight and media coverage to spread the word about fighting racial injustice. Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson, and Muhammad Ali were at the forefront of these athletes, and they spread their message in different ways. Owens was rather reserved in speaking out and let his actions do the talking, while Ali was very verbal when it came to fighting social inequality. Robinson was an equal balance of the two. Colin Kaepernick is continuing on this sentiment today by kneeling for the national anthem to raise awareness about continuing racial inequality and police brutality on minorities.
